I became interested in SP as a mother of a 5 year old boy navigating the urban landscape of NYC. Loving the work, I offer Simplicity Parenting with a specialization in movement, yoga, breath work and meditation ~ a perfect match. Our parenting practices are enriched by raising awareness, acting and responding with compassion, and being both prepared and spontaneous on a daily basis. I hold a doctorate in Dance with an emphasis in Philosophy and Body-Mind Awareness Studies, an MA in Dance and Mythological Studies, and a BA in Classics. I am a certified yoga and prenatal yoga instructor. As an educator, performer and artist, my overall work centers on building connections between families within our urban neighborhoods through movement, art and parenting.

Marieke’s passion lies with the healthy and balanced development of children in our society. She holds a BA in Social Work from Rotterdam University, the Netherlands. She also graduated from the Waldorf Elementary Teacher Training Institute in Stuttgart, Germany and worked with children and their parents in both countries, first as a social worker, later as Waldorf class teacher and remedial teacher (inspired by the “Extra Lesson” method developed by Audrey McAllen).
After her move to the USA she learned about the work of Simplicity Parenting, which has proven to be a highly effective approach to a need many parents expressed to her over the years.
As a mom of three children and a Simplicity Parenting Group Leader, she now looks forward to encourage parents to support the development of their children and family lives through sustainable changes in their homes.
