Becca has been a teacher for 8 years, working within many educational models with children birth through high school.  After going through training to be a licensed public school teacher, Becca realized she was pulled toward Waldorf education.  After quite a journey, she and her husband opened a early childhood program on their property (in a yurt!) for children ages 3.5-6.5.

Many families desire to bring the rhythm and simplicity of the early childhood classroom into their homes.  Becca has often recommended Simplicity Parenting as a way to help parents do this.

Becca desires to share the philosophy of Simplicity Parenting not only within this school community but with the greater community where she lives.

Becca lives in Asheville NC with her husband, two children, eight chickens, angora rabbits, dog, and cat.

Whitney has been a coach and educator for over twenty years. His teaching career began while coaching basketball teams in youth at-risk programs in Oakland, Ca. As a coach and tutor he saw the impact that a positive male influence could have on boys in their teen years. After receiving his Masters in Education and Waldorf teacher’s certification at Antioch University, he taught and coached for fourteen years at the Emerson Waldorf School in Chapel Hill, NC. During this time he and his wife, Amy MacDonald, CNM, developed and implemented a comprehensive health education program for the students of the school. Even as we developed a successful program Whitney saw more was needed than a school could provide. Good kids from good families were struggling in the transition into manhood. It was clear that boys were not getting the support they needed during this time of transition so he set out to find a better way. Out of this, Sakonnet Passage was born.

He grew up in Ohio and Massachusetts playing sports of all kinds and developing an on-going love of the sea and the outdoors. His favorite places to be in the world are on the ocean or in the redwoods. Whitney has lectured on education both domestically and abroad and he’s doing on-going work in China. He’s also been active in Hands-in-Peace, an international organization which brings young people from societies in conflict together for cultural healing through athletics and cultural sharing. He lives in Hillsborough, NC with his wife and two teenage sons and their dog, Stella.
