Sue Gimpel knows the value and has reaped the rewards of Simplicity Parenting© through her personal experience of raising three young children while facing serious health challenges of her own. Sue has worked with both children and adults with: developmental disabilities, eating disorders, attention priority issues, environmental illness and food sensitivities, learning differences, anxiety disorders, and cumulative stress response in the settings of hospitals, mental health institutions, schools and homes. Sue loves helping parents of young children establish rhythms and routines that ease daily stressors and increase the joy of being together!
She also offers compassionate yet practical strategies for families with “soul fevered” teens and tweens. She is particularly interested in working with families in creating long term change. Whether by helping to establish lifestyles that may prevent the need for further therapeutic intervention, or supporting families already in a therapeutic process, the newly formed habits will help to sustain lasting results.
Along with the variety of experiences in the mental health field, Sue also has had entrepreneurial experience in the area of executive recruiting/career counseling. She has been parenting for 20 years with her husband Ralph, of 25 years. Though a native of Michigan, Sue’s lived in California for 30 years and currently resides in West Sonoma County, CA, with her husband and their three children.

Whitney has been a coach and educator for over twenty years. His teaching career began while coaching basketball teams in youth at-risk programs in Oakland, Ca. As a coach and tutor he saw the impact that a positive male influence could have on boys in their teen years. After receiving his Masters in Education and Waldorf teacher’s certification at Antioch University, he taught and coached for fourteen years at the Emerson Waldorf School in Chapel Hill, NC. During this time he and his wife, Amy MacDonald, CNM, developed and implemented a comprehensive health education program for the students of the school. Even as we developed a successful program Whitney saw more was needed than a school could provide. Good kids from good families were struggling in the transition into manhood. It was clear that boys were not getting the support they needed during this time of transition so he set out to find a better way. Out of this, Sakonnet Passage was born.
He grew up in Ohio and Massachusetts playing sports of all kinds and developing an on-going love of the sea and the outdoors. His favorite places to be in the world are on the ocean or in the redwoods. Whitney has lectured on education both domestically and abroad and he’s doing on-going work in China. He’s also been active in Hands-in-Peace, an international organization which brings young people from societies in conflict together for cultural healing through athletics and cultural sharing. He lives in Hillsborough, NC with his wife and two teenage sons and their dog, Stella.

As a parent of a teenager and a teacher of three year-olds, Martha is reminded daily of the importance of routine and keeping life simple. After a satisfying career in social services, being a parent inspired her to a second career as a Waldorf early childhood teacher. She has been at the Seattle Waldorf School since 2002. She loves her work because the children discover the magic of play and share their enthusiasm for life and she finds parents of young children to be open, curious and dedicated to their children’s well-being.
As a coach and group leader, I want to bring the valuable work of Simplicity Parenting© to reach as many people as possible. Please contact Martha for 2011 dates for Simplicity Parenting Groups© and individual coaching.
